During my stay in Moscow, I encountered a lot of theater-stage-design-tarpaulins, protecting ongoing restoration/construction works all over the city. Always accompanied by knife cuts, tags, and graffitis, which have then again been covered up (stitched back together or drawn over with grey or black paint) by the authorities.
Having read Baudrillard’s essay „KOOL KILLER, or The Insurrection of Signs“, I was interested in the relationship between violence and capitalism.
So together with two friends, we cut out a portion of tarpaulin, and back in Berlin, I stretched a piece of the Palimpsest with little construction cramps and rusty wire ropes like a piece of parchment being prepared for its usage.
